When thinking about our common household items, we find that many are derived from plants. Items such as cotton shirts, almonds, orange juice and beet sugar are made from plants, but the entire plant isn't used. So, what happens to the rest of the plant?

To prevent these plant materials from ending up in a landfill, dairy farmers are able to incorporate them into their cows' diets. Michael Siegersma, an Idaho dairy farmer, shared how his cows are able to upcycle these ingredients and extract nutrients. In return, we not only doing good by the planet, but we are also getting nutritious and delicious dairy products.
