Do cows sleep standing up?

Share

Contrary to popular belief, cows do not sleep standing up. Their sleep time, their relax time is very important to us as dairy farmers. We work really hard to provide a nice comfy bed for the cows. Our milk cows here on our dairy, you can see, get sand beds. So, their beds are 6-or 8-inches deep sand bed and we go through and keep that fluffed up and raked and keep it really soft and clean. It’s really important for us that they feel comfortable and they have enough down time to relax and be healthy and to make milk.
