What is a robotic dairy?

Share

I’m a third generation dairy farmer, my son is actually the fourth generation and we’re just moving our dairy to being robotic. I get a lot of questions that people ask about robots. We’re in the middle of transitioning from a regular conventional dairy to a robotic dairy and we built a new facility in order to handle the robots.

A lot of people wonder what the robots are - when we say robots, what does that mean? That means that the cow goes in when it wants, gets milked by robots, totally hands free, nobody has to be here and it preps the cow, milks the cow, post-dips the cow, and lets the cow out. The whole facility is geared around cow comfort. The whole intent of the barn is to make the cows as comfortable as possible and then the robots just give it that other thing that gives them the option to milk when that cow feels the urge to go milk.
