This is Justin Engerberson here in Monteview, Idaho from Engberson Dairy. One thing I'd like to talk about this morning is how we feed our cows. One thing that we do a little bit unique to some dairies is we actually do what we call green chop every day.
So, we take the plants in the field that are still growing and we swath them and we chop them and we put them in a truck and we take them right back to the dairy and feed them immediately. We chop this every day, seven days a week, so it’s really fresh and green for our cows. I kinda liken it to going to the farmer’s market and picking out the fresh produce. We grow most of our own feed for our dairy cows here on our farm and this is kind of that way that the cows have really fresh green feed. The rest of the year we try to put up premium feed so we can have it throughout the winter months. Something in the summertime that we do is to chop this every single day.
