I’m Joel Boschma and as a dairy farmer one of the questions I get is "do you take the babies away from their mamas right away?" and we do, but that’s for the health of the baby. Some of the first-time mothers don’t necessarily have the highest quality colostrum and that colostrum is the first milk that a mother gives after having a baby. We test every mothers colostrum for the highest quality colostrum that it could be. Calves get their immune system from their mothers colostrum, so we make sure that every calf gets the best chance that they can by getting the best colostrum that they can. That’s why we take the babies away from the mothers right away to guarantee that they have the best start to life that they possibly can.
